CENTRAL NEW YORK ( WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Oneida and Otsego Counties, as well as the southern half of Herkimer County. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Town of Webb (Northern Herkimer County). They will both go into effect Sunday evening and continue into Monday (MLK Jr. Day). Snow, blowing snow, high winds, and ice will all be a concern with this storm.

As of midday Sunday, 4-8″ of snow is expected with a period of ice mid-storm. Mainly sleet, but freezing rain may also be a concern as it would lead to icing of roads and trees.

High winds are also expected during this time with 40-50 mph gusts possible. This will lead to reduced visibility due to blowing snow and downed tree limbs (especially in areas that receive freezing rain).

There will be a lull Monday morning and midday before lake effect snow kicks on during the afternoon and evening hours. A few inches of additional snow are possible by Tuesday morning and we will again experience strong wind gusts.
