CENTRAL NEW YORK (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 PM Monday evening through 2 PM on Tuesday for Central New York as well as parts of the Southern Tier and the North Country. Power outages are a concern with this storm as wet, heavy snow is expected with snowfall rates of 1-3″ per hour for a time.

The storm starts as rain and changes to snow by late Monday evening. Sleet is also possible at the transition. At first, the snowfall amount is highly dependent on elevation with more rain in the valleys and more snow for higher elevations. Then, at some point Monday night, a band of very heavy snow will affect parts of CNY leading to a quick pileup of snow even on valley floors.
