A woman died Sunday after falling through the floor of an Oconee County house into a well.

The death of Stephen Smith, one of Buster Murdaugh’s high school classmates, was ruled a hit-and-run after Smith’s body was found in the middle of a road in 2015, but the case is now being reinvestigated as a homicide. Authorities have not released any evidence linking any Murdaugh family members to Smith’s death. Smith’s mother, Sandy, and her attorney, Eric Bland, believe key evidence may live in Smith’s phone and tablet that investigators have finally unlocked.
