UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police arrested a man after he threatened the staff of a synagogue and officers with a knife.
Police were called to the Nurulislam Nabu Myanman Muslim Community Synagogue on the 600 block of Rutger Street on Friday, March 17, on a report of a man with a knife trying to enter the synagogue. Staff then reported they were able to keep the doors locked and the attacker out.
When officers arrived, 38-year-old Han San of Utica then threatened officers with the knife, prompting them to deploy their Taser after several warnings. When the Taser was unsuccessful due to San’s clothing, officers then fired several rounds of bean bags at San and another Taser, which proved successful gave officers the opportunity to subdue San.
San has been charged with three counts of Menacing a Police Officer and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, all felonies.
San was then transferred to the Utica Police Department, where he awaits arraignment.
