A Utica man took a long barrel pellet gun from a store clerk inside the Walmart in Colonie, near Albany on Wednesday, ran out of the store and twice attempted to steal a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. Arrested was Daquan Forehand, 25 years old, of Utica. Forehand was charged with Grand Larceny, Menacing a Police Officer and two counts of Attempted Robbery, all felonies. Forehand was also charged with several misdemeanors. The incident at the Colonie Walmart took place hours after Forehand had been released on cash bail from the Oneida County Jail where he was being held on a charge of domestic violence.
Shortly before 12:30PM Wednesday, Colonie Police began to receive 911 calls about a man in the Walmart parking lot with what appeared to be a rifle. Police were told that the man was running to various locations in the area of the Walmart and had pointed the weapon at several people. There was also a report that the man had twice attempted to steal vehicles at gunpoint.
Forehand was found by police at the Route 9 Latham Circle overpass. Forehand was taken into custody after a brief struggle. No shots were fired in the incident by police. Several officers suffered minor injuries during the scuffle. Forehand did not appear to be injured but was taken to the Albany Medical Center for evaluation.
The Colonie Walmart was put on lockdown during the incident. The weapon that was stolen by Forehand from the Walmart turned out to be a Ruger pellet rifle.
