UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – We previously told you about the two incidents that occurred on the evening of January 14th on South Street and Hilton Ave. in Utica.

And on January 17th, the 17-year-old suspect was arraigned in family court and charged with a multitude of crimes.

The suspect was charged with five counts, including felony rape. He was then remanded to the Oneida County jail, pending grand jury action.

“So, at this point in the investigation, the case has been turned over to the Oneida County District Attorney’s office for prosecution,” explained Sgt. Michael Curley of the Utica Police Department.

“He has to go through an indictment, grand jury procedure, and then the case will proceed through, hopefully, the normal Oneida County court adult procedures.”

He continued, “So that may take some time, but please rest assured that we have the individual responsible and we are very confident the individual we have arrested is the individual responsible for those crimes.”

And it’s important to note that Oneida County District Attorney, Scott McNamara, confirmed to Eyewitness News that he’s going to proceed toward trying the suspect as an adult.

We’ll be sure to bring you updates as this case progresses.
