Now that Christmas is over, instead of throwing out your tree, it can be recycled and used for compost.
Samantha Brown, recycling coordinator for Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority, advises residents to contact their municipalities and ask if they have a curbside collection program. If municipalities have the program, residents can place their live Christmas Tress on the curbside for a hauler to collect.
The Oneida-Herkimer Waste Authority is collecting wrapping paper up to two weeks after Christmas. They ask that residents place their folded wrapping paper in their curbside recycling bins. However, Brown asks residents to not place the foil/shiny wrapping paper in the bins because they are not recyclable.
