Whitesboro baseball outlasts JD to win Section III Class A title

Sports

It took 11 innings, but Whitesboro baseball was able to bring home the Section III Class A title for the second time in three years.

The Warriors held off Jamesville-Dewitt by a final score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Onondaga Community College.  Avery Cook delivered what proved to be the game-winning single in the top of the 11th inning.

Cook and Jamesville-Dewitt’s A.J. Ortega were locked in a pitcher’s duel through nine innings, but they eventually had to be pulled due to pitch count.

In the top of the 10th, Ryan Cardone opened the scoring with an RBI triple.  He would later score on a Joey Crossley single to give Whitesboro a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 10th.

However, the Red Rams refused to go away when Nolan Giblin answered with a two-run triple of his own off Bryce Gnatek to tie the game at two.

Cook responded for the Warriors in the 11th, and Gnatek was able to shut the door to seal Whitesboro’s latest sectional title.
