UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica University Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams held their first intersquad skills competition Wednesday night to celebrate the inauguration of the University’s 10th President, Dr. Todd Pfannestiel, and to allow season ticket holders to pick up those tickets prior to the start of their 2023-24 seasons.
The men and women were split onto two separate teams, one wearing home jerseys and one away, and then went head-to-head in a wide variety of contests similar to the NHL skills competition including fastest shot, speed skating, puck control relay, a breakaway challenge and a few more. A few hundred dedicated Utica hockey fans attended.
The men start their season against the United States U-18 Developmental Team at the Adirondack Bank Center on October 20th in an exhibition game, while the women start their year a week sooner, an exhibition against Norwich University on October 14th and then another one on the 20th against SUNY Canton. The first of those is n the road and the second is at home.
