UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Comets started their chase for the Calder Cup with a 6-3 comeback win over the Rochester Americans, scoring four unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 in the first period and 3-2 in the second.

Utica gave up two goals to the Americans in the first seven minutes of the game, quieting the Utica “Whiteout” crowd, but that crowd would only have to wait until the second period to see their home team break into the scoring column.

The Comets scored two goals in the second period to even it up, only for Rochester to take the lead again, but from the 3-2 game on it was all Utica.

Joe Gambardella was the man for the Comets who netted the game-winning goal, and AJ Greer would score two insurance goals, all three of those in the third period, to ice the game and give Utica a 6-3 win and one-game lead in the best-of-five North Division Semi-Final against Rochester.

Nolan Foote, Reilly Walsh, and Greer all had multi-point games for the Comets, with Ryan Schmelzer, Robbie Russo, Tyce Thompson, and Gambardella all scoring a single goal in the victory.
