UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The nationally ranked Hamilton College and Utica University Womens’ hockey teams took to the ice at the new Mastrovito Hyundai Rink at the Nexus Center, the two team a combined 18-1 since the beginning of December. Neither side got a loss in tonight’s game, the Pioneers storming back with a pair of third period goals to knot the game at 2-2 and earn a tie according to the NCAA rulebook.

Utica netminder Angela Hawthorne had a career best game, posting 52 saves including four during the overtime period to help the Pioneers extend their unbeaten streak to 16 games, not having lost since their season opening game to then-number four Elmira.

For Hamilton this is their first tie of the 2022-23 season, their record moving to 12-3-1 overall.

The two sides decided not to play the shootout that routinely follows the end of the overtime period, with the NCAA ruling the game a tie for both teams regardless of the shootout result, so we don’t get a true winner to the Tuesday night matchup, unlike Utica’s previous tie against Arcadia University on November 5th, in which the Pioneers won that shootout 3-2.
