It was supposed to be SU’s first test of the season. If that was indeed the case, then the Orange passed that first test with flying colors.

Andrew White III led a blanaced attack for Syracuse by dropping in a game-high 18 points as SU pulled away in the second half to beat Monmouth 71-50.

White made all three of his three-point attempts in the first half helping SU to a 37-29 lead at intermission.

The Orange outscored Monmouth 17-6 during the first nine minutes of the second half to lengthen the lead.

Freshman Taurean Thompson chipped in with 12 points in 13 minutes of action while his classmate Tyus Battle added nine points in 20 minutes.

Frank Howard led ‘Cuse in assists with six and scored eight points.

Monmouth returns four starters off of a team that won 29 games last season.  The Hawks just lost at South Carolina by one point at the buzzer in overtime on Tuesday.

Syracuse faces the Gamecocks next Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  Prior to that one, the Orange will look to improve to 4-0 on Tuesday night with another home contest against South Carolina State.
