UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Clinton and Skaneateles, two girl’s ice hockey teams accustomed to success, entered Wednesday night’s matchup in unfamiliar territory, both having lost their only games of the season and searching for their first tally in the win column. Clinton would leave as the winners after three periods of play, led by Whitesboro sophomore Casey Clausen’s 18-save shutout and RFA senior and Captain Drew Kopek’s game-winning goal, the Warriors took down the Lakers 2-0 to earn their first “W” of the year.
Kopek scored in the first period, and Whitesboro sophomore Abigail Dicks added an insurance goal on a redirected shot in the third, with Alexa Thompson, Alyssa Nardslico, and Mackinley Ronan adding assists. Kopek also assisted Dicks’ goal, giving her a two-point night and drawing her just 3 points short of becoming the Clinton Warrior’s all-time leading scorer, a title held by now Quinnipiac sophomore Mia Lopata.
