Holland Patent athletics makes fall sports statement

Holland Patent athletics has never experienced success like they did during this past fall sports season.

The football, girls soccer and field hockey teams all brought home sectional titles.

“We’re a small community and people doubted us,” Annastasha Dornburgh said.  “This year we all came out and showed people who Holland Patent is and everyone supported us.”

The Golden Knights football team won their first sectional championship since 1989 thanks to a thrilling 21-14 victory over General Brown.

“We made history,” DJ Harter said.  “We were the first undefeated Holland Patent team to win a sectional title.  I think we’ll go down as probably one of the greatest teams to play football here.”

Girls soccer’s title was their first in program history.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Dornburgh said.  “We brought something to Holland Patent that has never been here before and I think that’s an incredible experience not only for our soccer program, but for the community.”

Field hockey knew what it was like to win.  They were Section III champions in 2017 and were able to repeat in 2018.

“I was just so happy for all of the other teams,” Chloe Williams said.  “I wanted them to know how that feels.”

It was a ride no one at Holland Patent will ever forget.

“I think it unified Holland Patent as a whole and brought the community and school together,” Harter said.  “It really was an unbelievable experience to be apart of my senior year.”
