MOUNT MARKHAM, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Mount Markham Mustangs had played the Clinton Warriors close in the team’s matchup earlier in the 2022-23 season. The game on January 5th finished 62-58 in favor of the home team, Clinton, and was a game in which Mount Markham went into halftime with a lead but lost both the third and fourth quarters. That script was reversed Tuesday night, with the Warriors carrying a 38-27 lead into the break, but the Mustangs turning on the heat in the second half, winning the third quarter 20-11 and the fourth 26-13 on their way to a 73-62 victory.
A player crucial to that comeback was senior guard Will Lunny. Lunny finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds, numbers much higher than the teams last game against Clinton in which he had 4 and 5. 20 of Lunny’s 23 came in the second half, with 13 in the fourth quarter alone. He wouldn’t finish as the team’s leading scorer though, that honor went to junior guard Jake Senko who, for the second straight game, had 25 points. He also finished just one point short of a double-double. Tega Igho, as he was in the first game of the series, was Clinton’s leading scorer with 19 points including three 3’s.
