LITTLE FALLS, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Little Falls baseball had the night off on Monday, awaiting the winner of a play-in game between Clinton and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill to see who they would play in the Class B baseball second round.
The 18-seed VVS would win that game, and then knock the Mounties out of the playoffs with a 9-7 victory Tuesday night, one of the biggest upsets of sectional play so far.
VVS scored 6 runs in the first inning, but the Mounties clawed back, taking the lead after 4 innings 7-6.
The Red Devils answered that with a run of their own in the 5th inning and would score two more in the 6th, taking a 9-7 lead that they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.
VVS advances to play #7 Solvay on Thursday, a team that they have beaten once already this year, on May 13th.
