The Sports Connection gives you a run down of each of this weekends upcoming Section 3 championship football games in the order they are to be played.
5pm – Class D Final. #3 Dolgeville vs. #1 Westmoreland.
When these two teams met the final week of the regular season, but were undefeated and both were state ranked. A 33-0 victory for Westmoreland got them the #1 seed in the tournament and bragging rights heading into this battle at the Carrier Dome. The Dolgeville Blue Devils (8-1) beat a tough Weedsport team to make it to the championship game and hope to carry that momentum against the undefeated Westmoreland Bulldogs (9-0).
8pm – Class A Final. #2 East-Syracuse-Minoa vs. #1 Whitesboro.
The undefeated and state ranked winner of the Class A American divison, ESM, meets up with the undefeated and state ranked winner of the Class A National division, Whitesboro, in a championship game for the ages. The E-S-M Spartans (9-0) are new to the Class A finals compared to the Whitesboro Warriors (9-0) who have won the championship game the last two years.
11am – Class C Final. #3 Notre Dame vs. #2 Herkimer.
While the off the field drama involving Skaneateles continues, the Championship game appears set with Notre Dame getting a rematch against undefeated Herkimer. Despite losing last weekend to Skaneateles, Notre Dame gets a second chance to prove they are the best in Class C. Skaneateles lost the right to play in this game when they were found guilty of off-season recruiting violations. Although, Skaneateles head coach Tim Green has resigned and the school continues to look for a legal route that would allow them to play in this game, Section 3 has ruled that Notre Dame will make the trip to the Dome to play Herkimer.
2pm – Class AA Final. #2 Christian Brothers Academy vs. #1 West Genesee.
Two Class AA football powerhouses do battle at the Dome. The West Genesee Wildcats (9-0) are coming off of a disappointing 2010 season but have claimed victories over some very tough opponents this year. CBA (8-1) has cruised since a season opening loss to Mansfield. CBA may be looking for payback after reaching the Class AA championship game last year only to lose to Baldwinsville in the finals.
5pm – Class B Final. #5 Oneida vs. #2 Chittenango.
The upset minded Oneida Indians (6-3) continue their run through the playoffs, deafeating a 4th seeded Mexico team and a #1 seeded Cazenovia team along the way. Oneida will have one more undefeated team to beat if they hope to win the Class B title as the Chittenango Bears (9-0) look to cap off a perfect season.
