UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Dolgeville graduate Rylee Lamphere headlined a trio of Utica and Hartwick players who were named to the Empire 8 Players of the Week on Monday, October 9.
Lamphere, a sophomore at Utica, led the Pioneers to a pair of victories over the past week. In those two games — wins over Keuka and Elmira — Lamphere racked up seven points on three goals and an assist. She also registered the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over Elmira. On Saturday, Lamphere netted two goals and added an assist in the 5-1 win over the Wolves. For the season, she leads the Pioneers in goals, assists and points, and is second on the team in shots on goal.
This is Lamphere’s second time earning the honor.
Hartwick sophomore Phoebe Olson took home the Women’s Tennis weekly honors this week. Olson went 3-1 for the Hawks over the last week, dropping a tiebreaker decision in her doubles match against Alfred University. She would come back in her singles match, defeating her opponent in three sets to help the Hawks pick up the 7-2 win over the Saxons. On Saturday, Olson would sweep both her games, winning 8-3 in doubles and beating her singles opponent in straight sets.
Olson has gone 7-5 this season in singles, and — with her partner Jade Killikelly — leads the team in doubles wins with seven. This is Olson’s second Empire 8 honor as well.
Picking up his fourth Player of the Week honor this season in cross-country is Utica runner Bennett Melita. The freshman participated in the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State in Massachusetts on Saturday, October 7 and finished second out of 190 runners, leading the Utica College’s white team to a seventh-place finish. His time of 25 minutes and 16.02 seconds was a conference season-best.
