Cooperstown baseball opens state tournament play Saturday

It’s on to the state tournament for Cooperstown baseball.

The Hawkeyes will face Tioga at 11am on Saturday in Binghamton in a game that will take place at NYSEG Stadium. The winner advances to the Class C Final Four.

“I think we have a good chance,” sophomore Kendall Haney said. “If we stay hot and we believe in each other, we’ll win games.”

Cooperstown heads into Binghamton winners of 13 straight and playing their best baseball of the season.

“We’ve gotten solid pitching from a lot of different players,” head coach Frank Miosek said. “We’ve had games where three kids have pitched and then the next game, we had three more pitch. We’ve had some sophomores give us some lift and have had timely hitting. We have a group of young men that are really dedicated to the sport and dedicated to finishing a game with class.”
