The Comets sweep away the Amerks.
After beating Rochester on Monday afternoon in a shootout, the Comets did it again on Wednesday downing Rochester 3-2 for the second time in three days.
Kevin Porter got the scoring started for the Amerks when he redirected a shot past Thatcher Demko. Darren Archibald, playing in his Comets’ record 274th career game with the team got the equalizer later in the period.
Early in the second, Cole Cassels put the Comets in front off a gorgeous pass from Michael Carcone. After taking the puck up ice, Carcone spun and dished it to Cassels right in front for the easy tap-in goal.
C.J. Smith knotted things up at 2-2 in the third off a breakaway goal to send the game to a shootout. There, Nikolay Goldobin came through with the game-winner to lift the Comets to a 3-2 victory.
With the win, Utica matches their season-high with a third consecutive triumph. They’ll look to win a fourth straight on Friday night against Hartford. Faceoff from the XL Center is set for 7:15pm.
