UTICA N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – With the Utica Comets’ first preseason game less than a week away, the team opened up their preseason training camp on Monday morning, 17 players, consisting of 11 forwards, five defensemen, and two goalies, reported to camp to get ready for the 2022-23 season.

Of the players who attended on Monday, one of the most experienced was last year’s Comets Captain, Ryan Schmelzer. Schmelzer spoke to the media after day one of practice about what the team did, the addition of new assistant coach Andrew Brewer, and what the team’s expectations are as they prepare for a new season.
