UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Comets 2022-23 season came to a close Friday night with a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Marlies in game four of their North Division semifinal series.
Utica was the first team on the scoresheet, even carrying a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to a Xavier Parent goal. Toronto scored often in the second though, goals from Carl Dahlstrom, Matteo Pietronero, and Logan Shaw that the Comets were unable to answer led to the team’s downfall. Utica’s sloppy powerplay was again one reason for the loss, they went 0-2 on Friday after an 0-6 effort in Wednesday’s game, the game that put them just one away from elimination.
Nico Daws made 36 saves for Utica, while Erik Kallgren made 28 for the Marlies.
With the win Toronto advances to the North Division final where they will play the Rochester Americans. The Americans won 5-4 in overtime over the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, May 6, thanks to Lawrence Pilut’s game-winning goal.
