The Comets put on a show for Canucks GM Jim Benning.
With Benning in attendance, Utica pounded the Penguins 8-1 on Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Reid Boucher tallied a hat-trick to become the first 30-goal scorer in franchise history. With two games remaining, he now has 31 goals. Marek Mazanec recorded the win in net. He stopped 24 shots.
Jonah Gadjovich opened the scoring 2:57 into the opening period to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. Boucher extended that lead to 2-0 early in the second and Tom Pyatt made it 3-0 with a power-play goal minutes later.
Boucher’s 30th gave the Comets a 4-0 lead midway through the frame. The Penguins got one back courtesy of Jarrett Burton, but the Comets answered with goals from Boucher, Lukas Jasek and Kole Lind to take a 7-1 after two.
In the third, Jaime Sifers joined the party to make it 8-1.
The Comets return to action tomorrow night when they visit the Hershey Bears. Puck drop is set for 7pm.
