The best season in Colgate women’s hockey history ends on a sour note.
The Raiders fell in the national title game to No. 1 Clarkson 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Knights struck first late in the first period on a goal from Kelly Mariani. However, Colgate answered early in the second period thanks to Malia Schneider, who scored off a 2-on-1.
The teams exchanged chances for the remainder of the period and into the third, but the game moved into overtime where Elizabeth Giguere stole away a pass in the neutral zone and beat Julia Vandyk on a breakaway to win it for Clarkson.
While the end result wasn’t what Colgate wanted, the program reached new heights this season. The Raiders set a school record with 34 wins, made it all the way to No. 2 in the national rankings and reached their first ever NCAA tournament and Frozen Four.
