Canucks trade Archibald, Demko set for call-up

Darren Archibald’s Comets career has come to an end.

He was traded on Wednesday afternoon along with Anders Nilsson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for goaltender Mike McKenna, forward Tom Pyatt and a sixth-round draft pick.

Pyatt, and his over 400 games of NHL experience, will report directly to the Comets, while McKenna is set to serve as the backup to Jacob Markstrom for Vancouver’s next two games in Ottawa and Montreal.  He would require waivers to join the Comets.

After that, Canucks general manager Jim Benning says Thatcher Demko will get called up to the NHL.

Archibald leaves the Comets as the all-time franchise leader with 305 games played and 75 goals.  He’s second in points with 144.

Archibald has been assigned to the Belleville Senators, who are scheduled to face the Comets at the Adirondack Bank Center on Jan. 19.
