The Canucks make a move they had to make.
Vancouver acquired goalie Marek Mazanec from the New York Rangers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.
This trade comes less than 24 hours after the Canucks were forced to start 19-year-old Michael DiPietro against the Sharks in a game they would lose 7-2.
Starter Jacob Markstrom was held out for precautionary reasons, and Thatcher Demko was already on injured reserve with a knee sprain. Prior to this trade, they were the only two goalies in the organization on NHL deals, aside from Richard Bachman who’s out with a long-term achilles injury.
Mazanec has appeared in 20 games for the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season posting an overall record 7-8-3 along with a .903 save percentage and a 3.01 GAA.
- Adam Gaudette was recalled by the Canucks on Tuesday afternoon to take the place of Brandon Sutter, who was placed on injured reserve. Gaudette has scored five goals and added six assists in 14 games for the Comets. In a corresponding move, the Comets have recalled Reid Gardiner from the Kalamazoo Wings.
