Big inning lifts Oriskany softball past RFA

Oriskany softball bounces back.

Less than 24 hours after suffering their first loss of the season to West Canada Valley, the Redskins answered with a 6-2 win over RFA on Tuesday afternoon at the John Kost Memorial Softball Complex.

The Black Knights struck first in the second on an RBI single from Madison Diehl.

RFA had a chance to break the game open in the third, but Angelina Hays got Elana Calicchia to ground into a an inning-ending 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded.

In the fourth, the Oriskany broke through with six runs.  Hays started things off with an RBI double, and after an infield single made it 2-1, Matteson Hoehn hit a scorcher to left field that was dropped by Megan Magnanti to extend the lead to 4-1.  They would add two more runs in the frame to take a 6-1 lead.

With the win, the Redskins improve to 5-1 on the season.  They’ll be in action next on April 24th against Westmoreland.

West Canada Valley softball remains unbeaten with a 12-1 victory over Dolgeville.
