Gil Seltzer, the lead architect of the Utica Memorial Auditorium, has died at 106 years old.

The World War II veteran’s contributions to what is now known as the Adirondack Bank Center inspired the design for Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Seltzer died on Saturday, August 14, just two months before his 107th birthday, according to the Utica Comets, who play in the Adirondack Bank Center.
