The most current update to the fall foliage report is for this week from October 20th, 2021 to October 26th, 2021. We’re at peak for foliage across central New York with areas in the North Country and out east that are already past their peak. Unfortunately with the windy conditions we’ve seen recently, a lot of leaves have been knocked off the trees so there’s not as much color out there as there could be. With frost expected in the forecast as well, it looks like the maple trees like sugar and red maple won’t be producing those vibrant red colors anymore. This is because the chemical responsible for that, anthocyanin, is not produced when the temperature drops to 32 degrees or lower.
