Woman dead after shooting in Utica on Tuesday

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Police Department is reporting that a woman is dead, and a man has been arrested on multiple weapons charges after a shooting that took place in Utica.

On Tuesday October 12th, the Utica Police and Fire Departments responded to a home on Leslie Ave after receiving a report that shots were fired at that location. Upon arriving on the scene, they found a woman who had been shot in the head, as well as 50-year-old Steven Mancuso of Utica. Emergency crews immediately transported the woman to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, after attempting to save the woman’s life, she sadly passed away.

Investigators say the investigation is still on-going and that they are in the process of gathering evidence to determine the cause of death and are waiting for the autopsy report to be released from the medical examiner.

At this time, Mancuso has been charged with the following:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm

The identity of the woman is currently not being released. Eyewitness News will keep you up to date with more information as it comes in.
