Winter Storm Warning Posted For Oneida County


In Effect Until Wednesday Morning, 5 To 8 Inches Of Snow Expected

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of Oneida County effective immediately until 7:00AM Wednesday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the same time period for the area of Otsego and Madison Counties. Snow, possibly heavy at times, is expected with this storm. 5 to 8 inches of snow are forecast for the Oneida County area. 4 to 6 inches of snow in the Otsego and Madison County area.

The National Weather Service says that the heaviest snowfall rates will occur between 1 PM and 6 PM Tuesday. A band of steady light snow will lift across the region this morning and stall out along or just north of the New York State Thruway early Tuesday afternoon. Snowfall rates will increase to around 1 inch per hour at times Tuesday afternoon. The snow will taper off through the evening before diminishing even more overnight.

Plan on slippery, snow covered road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. Travel could be very difficult. In anticipation of the predicted snow accumulation, the City will be lifting parking restrictions in municipal lots and the parking garage as of noon on Tuesday. Anytime there is 2 1/2″ of snow accumulation (or more), vehicles are required to be moved off City of Oneonta streets or they are subject to ticketing / towing at the owner’s expense.
