UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Friday evening accident left one person dead in the city of Utica after a man was hit by two cars on Genesee Street.

Police and fire units were dispatched to North Genesee Street near Oriskany Street at approximately 5 pm on Friday, November 17. Upon arrival, police located a male who had been struck by a vehicle. That person was immediately transported to Wynn Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Portions of both North Genesee Street and Oriskany Street were closed for a period of time as the Utica Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the accident.

Further investigation found that the victim was struck by the initial vehicle, then by a second vehicle that was traveling in the same direction. Both operators remained on the scene during the investigation and are cooperating with investigators.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation. We will provide information regarding the accident as soon as it is received.
