Visiting Joe Biden’s Hometown

News

Scranton, PA (WUTR-TV) — President Elect Joe Biden grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and it was here, in his home state where he won enough electoral college votes for an election victory.

Last week the Associated Press deemed Joe Biden the projected winner for the 2020 presidential election. Biden had 290 Electoral College votes, that’s 20 points past the line in order to win and Trump had 232. Former Mayor of Scranton and friend to Biden, Jimmy Connors was overjoyed when he first heard the news.

“We’re proud one of ours made it! One of ours made it to the top and he didn’t forget us. He came home, he was here this week.” – Jimmy Connors. Former Mayor of Scranton

Residents flooded to his childhood home on North Washington Ave after learning he’d be the next president of the United States. The city’s mayor, Paige Cognetti, says this is a moment Scranton will never forget.

“It’s so exciting for Scranton that we have a president elect from the city. I think it shows every kind that’s from here and every kid growing up here now that you truly can be anything you want to be and that should be a great source of pride for everyone across the city.” – Mayor Paige Cognetti (D)-Scranton

Biden is set to be sworn into office on January 20th in an outdoor inauguration ceremony.
