A meeting at the Vernon Town Hall is being held Monday night and plans are being presented to local residents about Woodstock 50 at Vernon Downs. The plan calls for the 50th anniversary festival, celebrating the original 1969 Woodstock, be held at Vernon Downs 38 days from Monday. Local officials from the town and county are in attendance, along with representatives of the Woodstock production staff.
The festival, originally planned for Watkins Glen, would be held August 16, 17 & 18th. The Woodstock plans call for the construction of three music stages at the track. There would be a maximum of 65,000 tickets sold. No camping at Vernon Downs is planned.
The question has been posed about where 65,000 concert goers would go when the music ends each night. No answer had yet been given.
The weekend of August 16th through 18th would be a very congestion weekend in the Mohawk Valley. Already planned for that weekend, before the plans to redirect Woodstock 50 to Vernon Downs, is the Woodsman Field Days in Boonville, the Madison-Bouckville Antique Show along Route 20 and the Herkimer County Fair in Frankfort.
