Utica Police are investigating a shooting in West Utica that occurred early Thursday morning and seriously injured one person. Police were called at 1:52AM to 907 Lenox Ave for a report of shots fired. Responding officers found a male who had been shot several times. The man told police he had been sitting in a vehicle when an unknown person approached the vehicle and opened fire.
The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. He underwent emergency surgery.
As of late Thursday morning, Utica Police were still at the scene gathering evidence and conducting their investigation. As of that time, they did not have any suspect information.
The location of the shooting is across the street from the scene of a home invasion in November, 2019. Malik Clea of South Carolina is facing trial for attempted murder in Oneida County Court in relation to last year’s incident. There is no known connection between the two incidents.
