UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police arrested a driver on James Street after finding a loaded handgun in his car in the presence of juveniles.

Police were conducting a vehicle stop on the 400 block of James Street in the City of Utica for traffic law violations on Sunday, March 19. While talking with the driver, 19-year-old Asad Mohamed of Utica, it was found out that he did not have a driver’s license, but he did have an outstanding warrant in the state of Texas. Police then called to tow the vehicle, and during an inventory they found a backpack with a loaded .38 caliber revolver.

Police then arrested Mohamed, and the two juveniles riding with him were also taken to the Utica Police Department, where the two juveniles were turned over to their parents.

Mohamed was charged with second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, both felonies, as well as New York State Traffic Violations.
