ORISKANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – An inmate at the Oneida County Jail was arrested after attacking a Corrections Officer and sending him to the hospital.

Oneida County Sheriffs say that at approximately 5:30 pm on Sunday, March 12, an Oneida County Corrections Officer was attempting to serve dinner when Tahjer Hicks of Utica attacked him. Hicks punched the officer and then threw him to the ground. Hicks was taken into custody soon after and removed from the unit.

The officer was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica for multiple injuries. He has since been released.

Hicks was already serving time at the Oneida County Jail when the attack happened. He was further charged with second degree assault, a felony. He is scheduled to appear in Whitestown Town Court for arraignment at a later date.
