Utica College First Year Students Move In

The first day of school is right around the corner. But for first year students and Utica College–Friday was the big day.

It was a big day at Utica college as students and faculty said…

“This is freshman move-in and we are having a ball.  We’re having a great time.  Parents are arriving, we have students, athletic teams, clubs that are here to greet them, help them move in.  So we swarm the car and help them move in,” says Dr. Todd Hutton, Utica College.

With 650 freshman, this is the largest class Utica College has ever seen.  They say that plus the addition of new programs make it a big year for UC.

“That’s added some excitement and some additional students to campus this year but really all of our programs have grown this year so we’re really thrilled about that,” says Jeffery Gates, Utica College.

But this day wasn’t about the academics.  It was all about settling in and getting ready for a major transition both for the students who looked forward to beginning their journeys and don’t forget about mom and dad who are learning to let go.

“I’m excited, I’m very happy and nervous and sad but I know it’s for a good cause and I’m trying to get her ready for the world,” says Ana Rodrigues, parent.

And despite that scary feeling–it was the first step on a brand new journey.

“Honestly it was wicked welcoming so I feel really comfortable here.  It’s not like awkward and I don’t know I definitely feel like home,” says Taylor Marshall, student.

After moving in–students attended a welcome picnic and then convocation.  And classes begin for all students on Monday.
