Two construction workers were injured Friday afternoon in an accident at a storage barn under construction next to the Newport Town Barn. One of the injured, a 41 year old man, had to be airlifted by Mercy Flight medical helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He is listed in stable condition. The second injured worker is a 25 year old man who was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica where he was treated and released. The names of the two injured workers have not been released.
New York State Police say that four men were working inside the storage barn being built next to the Newport Town Barn. The workers attempted to adjust the wooden trusses when a loose truss fell. The fallen truss knocked over the lift that was being used by workers. The lift knocked down the other trusses.
Newport Fire Department assisted in the rescue, along with Kuyahoora and Newport Fire Ambulance.
