A police official in Paris, France is reporting that the structural integrity of stone exterior of the Cathedral of Notre Dame that it can be saved by firefighters. Paris firemen were seen inside one of the famous bell towers, indication of the safety of the structure. There had been a serious concern that the entire building might collapse. Residents in neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution in case of collapse.
A large fire has been raging through the historic Cathedral Notre Dame in Paris, France since 6:30PM Paris time, about 12:30PM local. Flames were first seen on the roof, in an area where renovation work was known to be going on. The fire quickly spread and led to the collapse of the tall spire that stood above the area of the altar in the cathedral. It then ate away at the entire roof of the centuries old structure.
