UPD charges suspect in July 5th shooting in Utica


UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) – The Utica Police Department is reporting that a suspect has been arrested in the shooting that took place on July 5th on James St. and Seymour Ave.

On July 5th, 22-year-old Idris Brown of Utica was a passenger of the vehicle involved in the shootout that occurred, during which the driver of was kill by a gunshot to the head.

During the investigation that took place, police discovered that Brown was in possession of a loaded handgun and was directly involved in the exchange of gunfire. But they were unable to physically locate the weapon.

Brown was taken into custody and has been charged with the following:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Outstanding Criminal Mischief Warrant

Although this arrest has been made, the investigation is still ongoing, and police continue to search for Brown’s weapon.
