It’s not meant to replace boots on the ground, but itdoes help keep Utica neighborhoods safer. That of course is The Armadillo used by the Utica Police Department.Now UPD has acquired a second truck in hopes of making another armadillo. Butofficials say the tough budget year means they have no money to transform thistruck into a high- tech surveillance vehicle. UPD says this truck came from Binghamtonand cost the department only ten dollars but it does need mechanical work. Theextent of repairs is unknown, but officials say the transformation is anexpensive proposition.
