Two Utica Men are Facing Felony Weapon Charges After a Shots Fired Incident


UTICA, NY (WUTR-TV) — Two Utica men have been arrested on weapons charges after a shots fired incident last night in the city.

The Utica Police Department was called to Sunset Ave and Shaw St shortly before 11 p.m. on Thursday. The report was occupants of a silver Dodge Caravan were shooting at a car. Police found bullet casings at the scene. A van matching the description of the suspect vehicle was seen and fled from police. For safety sake, police broke off the pursuit, but were called to the 700 block of Blandina St a short time later. The van they were chasing had hit a utility poll. At the scene of the crash was 19-year-old Sirr Roberts, who suffered a leg injury in the crash. police also found a handgun in the van and the wallet of Tyshawn Rhines. Rhines showed up at a local hospital with a broken arm. Both Roberts and Rhines are facing felony weapon possession charges.

At this time both Roberts and Rhines were charged with the following:

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (F)
Criminal Possession of a Firearm (F)

And Rhines received the additional charge of

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (F)

As the investigation progresses additional charges are likely.
