TRAVEL ALERT: Route 5S and Oriskany Street in Utica will be closed on Saturday

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) — The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Utica Regional Office has issued the following travel advisory for motorists in the City of Utica, Oneida County:

On Saturday, August 21, 2021 starting at 6:30 AM through 6:00PM Route 5S/Oriskany Street east and westbound will be closed to through traffic between State Street and Cornelia Streets due to the installation of a new overhead sign structure. 

In addition, the Route 12 south exit ramp to Downtown will also be closed to traffic due to the installation of a new overhead sign structure.

Variable message signs have been in operation notifying local motorists of the road and ramp closures. Signed detours will be utilized to advise motorists of the road closure and direct traffic to the appropriate detour routes.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
