During the holidays many people spend time with friends and family while others choose to give back to those less fortunate. The Rescue Mission of Utica held a free holiday dinner for those in need.
“Today is our annual christmas eve service and dinner. We had a christmas service at 11 o’clock in our chapel followed by a traditional christmas meal. Turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes and pie.” – Wendy Goetz, Executive Director, Rescue Mission of Utica
The dinner was open to the entire in the community, regardless personal beliefs. The food was donated by various local companies and families throughout the area. In addition to dinner, they also gave away a few christmas gifts.
“We also have scarves, mittens, gloves, hats for people that come in. And sometimes we’ll get children in so if they want a gift we have a gift to give the kid. We also deliver food to the homebound. So anyone who calls in and wants to order a meal, we have volunteers that will bring the meals right to their homes.” – Wendy Goetz, Executive Director, Rescue Mission of Utica
Goetz says that all of this would not be possible without the help from volunteers.
