Teaching with New Technology

New Hartford (WUTR)— Students at the Tilton School at the House of the Good Shepherd are now using iPads as a part of their curriculum, thanks to a local corporation.

“The Indium Corporation and Macartney Family Foundation donated $13,000 to the House of the Good Shepherd. And they used that to purchase 20 new iPads including Otter Box Protective Covers,” explained Libby Mitchell, President of the Indium Corporation Macartney Family Foundation. “They are working towards a goal of having 114 total iPads by 2020, to have an equal number of iPads in their classroom for their students.”

Principal Shannon Perri said students will be using the iPads to help them study math and science.

“It’s important to have all of this equipment for our students because we want them to enter the world prepared for college,” said Perri. “And that’s why we like to partner with Indium to further our student’s education.”

The students are already using the technology as a tool to study cell membrane structures and to practice regents questions.

“This ability to help The House purchase these iPads for their STEM program was a great way for us to give back to the community, and support the community,” said Mitchell.
