The Oneida County Stop DWI Coordinator, Thomas Giruzzi, was arrested Tuesday evening in the City of Utica and charged with DWI – Drugs. Oneida County Sheriff Corporal Richard Stanek was driving a marked Sheriff patrol car on Genesee Street in Utica and observed Giruzzi driving his personal vehicle. Giruzzi was not wearing a seatbelt and was using a cell phone. During the traffic stop, Giruzzi was found to be in possession of cocaine.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente announced Wednesday that Giruzzi has been removed from his position as Coordinator of the county’s Stop DWI program. “It is my hope that Tom finds the help he needs at this time. Substance abuse is a serious disease that can affect anyone regardless of their personal or professional circumstances. The STOP DWI Office is mission critical to educating the public on the ill effects of driving while under the influence and making destructive decisions. I will seek to fill that position as soon as possible.”
