ONEIDA COUNTY N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — It was a Christmas miracle for the McLaughlin family. 3-year-old Sophie wanted her mommy to be home for Christmas, and her wish was granted.
37-year-old Stephanie McLaughlin was diagnosed in 2018 with sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that causes scarring in several organs. Stephanie knew something was off when she was constantly nauseous and tired. She says it was difficult for her from walk room to room. Doctors told Stephanie she needed a heart transplant in order to survive.
Earlier this month, Stephanie’s daughter, Sophie, sat on Santa’s lap telling Santa she wanted her mommy to get a new heart. Not too long after, there was a matching donor heart for her, Stephanie was able to get a heart transplant. After weeks of recovery, Stephanie is able to spend Christmas at home with her family.
Stephanie is thankful for her organ donor and to all the experts at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. After this, Stephanie wishes more people will consider being organ donors. To learn more about becoming a donor, you can visit http://donorrecovery.org.
