Solar farms being constructed in Herkimer County

Little Falls solar farms will offer reduced energy bills for National Grid customers

LITTLE FALLS–Construction of two solar farms are underway, and completion will lend itself to potential reductions in National Grid customer bills.

The farms are being constructed by Nexamp. In order for area National Grid customers to reap the benefits, customers must first subscribe to Nexamp; at no cost.

Nexamp will analyze home electric usage, then allocate a portion of the farms’ energy to that home. The value of the power generated is applied as credit on the electric bill, and homeowners pay Nexamp a discounted rate for the credits when automatically applied to the monthly electric bill.

“If you look at things in Herkimer County, this is our third way of doing alternative energy: we have hydro along some of our creeks and streams, we have wind power–which we have 37 windmills–and now we are adding solar farms.”

John Piseck, Executive Director of the Herkimer County Industrial Development Agency
