An Old Forge man is facing charges for his part in a boating crash that occurred Saturday night on Fourth Lake. Four passengers on one of the two boats, including two six year old children, suffered serious injuries.

Town of Webb police were called to Fourth Lake a little after 8:00PM Saturday. They discovered a vessel driven by Carter Lawrence, 22 years old, from Old Forge, had collided with a pontoon boat. The pontoon boat was driven by Scott Delmedico of Sauquoit. On board Delmedico’s boat were three adult males and two six year old children.

The two children and one of the adults on the pontoon boat were airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. The three of them are reported by police to be in critical condition. Another male was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica with serious injuries. The identity of those sent to the hospital was not released by police.

Lawrence was charged with Boating While Impaired, Reckless Operation and First Degree Vehicular Assault. He was arraigned in Town of Webb Court and sent to the Herkimer County Jail in lieu of bail. The Town of Webb Police are working with the New York State Police and Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office.

The rescue effort included Fire Boats from Old Forge and Eagle Bay, ambulances from Old Forge and Inlet and medical helicopters from Mercy Flight and LifeNet.
